This lab aligns to CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-006) exam objective 1.4: Given a scenario, manage network services and configurations on a Linux server.

By the end of this lab, you will be able to:

  • Identify key Linux network configuration components including interfaces, IP addressing, and routing
  • Configure a Linux network adapter using both the command line and the graphical user interface
  • Apply nmcli and NetworkManager configuration files to implement static IP settings on AlmaLinux
  • Configure a Linux network adapter on Ubuntu using ip commands and Netplan
  • Use common Linux networking tools including ping, ss, arp, dig, curl, tracepath, and nmap

Overview

Welcome to the Configuring and Managing Linux Network Services lab. You will explore the key components of Linux network configuration across two distributions — AlmaLinux and Ubuntu. You will configure network adapters using the graphical user interface, the command line, and NetworkManager configuration files. You will verify connectivity using a range of networking tools and diagnose common name resolution issues. You will also use tools such as nmap, dig, and tracepath to gather network information and test connectivity. By the end of this lab, you will have practical experience managing Linux network services in both GUI and CLI environments.

You will complete the following 3 activities in this lab:

  • Reading Assignment — Linux Network Configuration Overview
  • Exercise 1 – Configuring a Linux Network Adapter
