Overview
Welcome to the Configure and Manage Software on a Linux Server lab. You will work across two Linux distributions — Ubuntu and AlmaLinux — to develop practical, cross-platform software management skills. You will install, update, and remove packages using the appropriate tools for each distribution. You will manage software repositories, configure package exclusions, and use update-alternatives to control default applications. You will also configure common services such as SSH and web servers, and implement firewall rules to control network access. By the end of this lab, you will have hands-on experience with the full software management lifecycle on both Debian-based and RHEL-based systems.
You will complete the following 2 activities in this lab:
- Exercise 1 – Managing Software on an Ubuntu Server
- Exercise 2 – Managing Software on an AlmaLinux Server
