Overview

This lab is part of a series of lab exercises designed to supplement coursework and provide students with a hands-on training experience based on real-world applications. This series of lab exercises is intended to support courseware for CompTIA A+® certification.

This lab will explore the Microsoft Windows operating system management tool, which allows easier organization of administrative tasks. The tasks in this lab will introduce students to management responsibilities in different roles that workers in an IT environment might have and the administrative tools that can be used to perform duties in those roles.

OUTCOMES

In this lab, you will learn to:

  1. Work with Microsoft Management Console.
  2. Perform disk management.
  3. Use Task Manager.
  4. Use Regedit.

 

Key terms and descriptions

Microsoft Management Console (MMC)
Hosts administrative tools that you can use to administer networks, computers, services, and other system components.
Event Viewer
Used to view information about significant events, such as programs stopping and security errors, which are recorded in event logs.
System Configuration
Used to change startup variables and what programs automatically run when Windows is booted.
Task Scheduler
Used to schedule programs or other tasks to run automatically.
Performance Monitor
Used to view advanced system information about the central processing unit (CPU), memory, hard disk, and network performance.
