Configure and Secure Wireless Devices

    Overview

In this lab, you will use two Windows 10 client virtual machines (VMs). The VMs are pre-configured for you. You will access the VMs in this lab by clicking on the icons in a topology that is presented after you start the lab. When the VMs start they will open in a new window. These lab instructions will guide you through how and when to start each VM. After the VM is started, it will function like any Windows 10 computer.

There are three tasks in this lab. Task 1 and Task 2 are dependent on each other and need to be completed in one session. Task 3 is independent and does not require Task 1 and 2 to be completed. This information may be helpful if you run out of time and need to restart the lab.

    outcomes

In this lab, you will learn to:

    1. Set a static IP address in Windows 10
    2. Configure the Windows 10 computer to use DHCP to set the IP. Then you will test connectivity between the two Windows 10 clients.
    3. Configure a wireless router using an online emulator.

    Key terms and descriptions

    WPA
WPA stands for Wi-Fi Protected Access and replaced the insecure WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) protocol that was initially used to secure a wireless network. It is very important to use encryption when connecting to a wireless network.
    SSID
Secure Set Identifier (SSID) is the name of the network.
    Wireless networking
Wireless networking is surpassing wired networking as the most popular way to connect a device to a network and the Internet. It uses different frequencies to send and receive packets.
